Sometimes a “NO” works just fine! -> Part-1

So I guess we have a hell lot of “Yes, Man” & “Yes, Woman” around us. Would add the “Yes, Boy” & Yes, Girl” as well just so that, they don’t feel left out. :p
In our heads, most of the times we are like: ’You seem to be talking to one of my other personalities …can’t hear you..nope ,still not a word…say what? :p
So , yeah …we all have this terrible terrible habit of saying “Yes” to everything even if in our mind we are like “It’s a Noooooooo…….go away for god’s sakes”. We can’t say “No”. Damn it , I am definitely one of those people too. It’s not like I want to say “no” to anything to everything . I am happy to be at your service whenever “possible”. Reason behind me writing “Possible” in quotes is that , we happen to say yes to things even if we know it’s gonna screw up our things  & will be coming right back at us ..as a bad timing thing. So these are the things that we should say “No” to.
‘Dude, I know you are in the middle of a TV-Series , but can I have your laptop for my trip? I’d be really bored!..you can continue once I get back.’
What do you expect I do… Hmm..( Note: the one asking is not even a friend..some friends’ friend that I happen to bump into)..maybe a friend borrowing it when I was in the middle of it..won’t actually happen/bother ‘coz they actually are sensible enough to understand….most of ‘em are at least :p.  I say: “You can have it” . But trust me when I say this , I was miserable throughout the week guessing what happens next & when I got it back , I sure got over the point where I am even vaguely interested in watching what happens next.
Let say , your colleague asks for a favor knowing that you are already overloaded with work. One time thing..ok..Help the poor soul..Second time..Ok let’s do it for him/her for one last time..One more time….what the…?
Say “No” not in a way that can get your ass fired right away but in a way that sounds polite, reasonable & convincing.
Never say “Yes” to others when you are actually saying “No” to yourself.
P.S. – In the next post will let you know about some ways(funny or serious..it’s how you take/give it) to actually say “No” to things that you would love to avoid.

  1. I say a "yes" to my friends and family members a lot, even when I want to say "no"
So, I can relate with this post! :) Nicely done.

    1. Family & friends are indeed an exception to the above post.
We would never want to say "No" to 'em whatsoever.
      Thanks Bhavya!:)

  2. U know once a colleague asked for my digi cam which he wanted for a function in his hometown..And I said NO as I cant hand over my gadgets to people, especially if they are going out of town. Imagine a child playing with the camera during the function and breaking it or spilling cold drink over it..and the colleague will return it with an apology and a puppy face..So I'd rather say no

  4. Very true, Nikhil. We want to please others & hence say 'YES' :)
But saying “Yes” to others when we are actually saying “No” to ourselves means that we are not being true to ourselves. Now that's bad for the health!

Trying to stay true to ourselves is indeed the most important yet the most toughest thing to do at times.:)

  5. Wish I could also learn this art of saying NO but I'm a "Yes Guy" and its now embedded in my nature. So even though sometimes people take advantage of it, I got no choice but to be Nice and help them.
However its really nice post :)

    1. I wish I could do the same man. But everytime I happen to contradict my thoughts. I think I would say "No" but somehow I tend to say "Yes" all the time. O_o

  9. Thanks for dropping by my blog Nikhil :) I loved this post! Its so true . Most of the time we have such a difficult time saying no! Caucasians seem to do it with ease compared to us Indians. I think its all to do with the fact that we don't want to sound impolite, but sometimes we should say NO ! Thanks for sharing . Following you :)

    1. My pleasure! :)
Ya , even I have heard that about caucasians. They are more into the "Who gives a damn!" thing. But that surely can be harmful at times. But all in all , we should be able to respond with a No when required. Glad you liked the post. :D

    1. Same is the case with me gal. Even though I wrote this post but deep inside I know I still won't be able to follow it all the time.
That's the irony with us human beings ...we know what's right for us but still choosing it is always a hard part. :)
